Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026. This is a template privacy policy for a site in development and should be reviewed by qualified counsel before launch to confirm it reflects actual data practices and applicable law.

What we collect

• Analytics. Aggregate, privacy-respecting usage data: pages viewed, referrer, approximate region, device type. We do not use cross-site advertising trackers.
• Server logs. Standard web server records including IP address, retained for a limited period for security and diagnostics.
• Messages you send us. Retained so we can respond and track corrections.
• Advertising data, only with your permission. This site carries third-party advertising. If you allow it, Google sets cookies and similar identifiers and receives information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you request, the site that referred you, and your interactions with ads, in order to serve and measure advertising. If you have not allowed it, none of that happens.

Advertising

Ads on this site are served by third-party advertising technology, including Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google in your Google Ad Settings, and you can opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors through the Digital Advertising Alliance or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance.

No advertising or measurement code loads on any page until you have given us permission. That applies everywhere, not only in regions that require it: if you have not answered our prompt, if you declined, or if your browser is sending a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, then nothing third-party runs and nothing about your visit leaves this site. You can change or withdraw your answer at any time, and some jurisdictions additionally give you the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.

California: interception and recording

California's Invasion of Privacy Act (Penal Code sections 630 through 638) requires the consent of every party to a communication before it is read or recorded, and separately restricts anything that captures a communication's routing and addressing information. Letting an advertising network observe your visit falls within both concerns, which is why we ask first rather than afterwards.

We do not use session replay, screen or scroll recording, keystroke or form capture, heatmaps, chat widgets, fingerprinting scripts, third-party analytics platforms, or advertising pixels from any network other than Google — with or without your consent. Each consent decision is recorded so that we can show what was disclosed and what was answered.

What we do not collect

Our calculators and checklists run entirely in your browser. Figures you enter — income, home price, debts, project costs — are never transmitted to us, are not stored on our servers, and are never shared with advertisers. Checklist progress is held in your browser session only.

We also do not record your visit itself. There is no session replay, no screen or scroll recording, no keystroke or form capture, no heatmap, no chat widget or transcript, no fingerprinting script, and no third-party analytics platform on this site, whatever you choose about advertising.

How we use it

To understand which content is useful, to keep the site secure, to respond to you, and to sell and measure the advertising that funds the site. We do not sell the personal information you send us directly, such as the content of your emails.

Cookies

We use cookies necessary for the site to function, cookies for aggregate analytics, and — set by our advertising partners — cookies used to serve and measure advertising. Advertising and measurement cookies are set only after you have given permission, in every region, because the code that would set them is not present in the page until then.

Your choices

The quickest route is our Your Privacy Choices page, which lets you allow, narrow, or withdraw permission for advertising on this site, shows you the consent we have on record for this browser, and shows which privacy signals your browser is already sending. Withdrawing is one click and needs no account or explanation.

• Request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your data by emailing us.
• Use your browser's Global Privacy Control signal, which we honor as a refusal: with it set, no third-party code loads at all. We treat a Do Not Track signal the same way.
• Opt out of personalized advertising using the vendor controls linked above.
• Residents of certain jurisdictions have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, and state privacy statutes; contact us to exercise them. California residents should also read our California Privacy Notice.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
